Luffing Lassies
One of the oldest and most active sailing groups at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron
Luffing Lassies is an organization of fun-loving women sailors who are members of the Sarasota Sailing Squadron. On Thursday mornings, the Luffing Lassies practice sailing skills and race Sunfish, 420 sailboats in the beautiful breezes of Sarasota Bay.
As members of the Florida Women’s Sailing Association (FWSA), the Luffing Lassies have the opportunity to enjoy Inter-Club Regattas with other FWSA sailing clubs here on the Gulf Coast.
Our members agree that Luffing Lassie clinics, racing competitions, ‘fun sails’, and social events are top-notch!

About Our Club
Luffing Lassies
The Luffing Lassies, founded in 1972 by Lilly Kaighin, is one of the oldest and most active sailing groups at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron. We are also one of the largest, with some eighty women sailors of all ages and backgrounds. The primary boat we sail is the Sunfish, but Lassies also sail Hobie Waves, 420’s and Flying Scots. For any woman wishing to improve her sailing skills, the Luffing Lassies offers educational opportunities and an on-water experience. Every Thursday during the school year, we meet to race against each other or against sister clubs in the Florida Women’s Sailing Association. But that is not all; we Lassies love to have fun on the water and off, with social events, work parties, and more. Come find your new friends - new members are warmly welcomed.
